Stanford, Calif. - Welcome to the ESPN.com moderated chat room! On Thursday, May 23, Stanford Baseball player and All-American candidate Sam Fuld will make a special visit to chat with fans about the Cardinal and the team's run for the Pac-10 regular season title. No. 8 Stanford (37-16, 13-8 Pac-10) enters the final weekend of Pac-10 action tied for second place with Washington (13-8 Pac-10) and one game behind first place USC (14-7 Pac-10) in the conference standings with three games remaining for each team. Stanford will host Washington State in a three-game series this Friday-Sunday, May 24-26 (6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm). USC will travel to UCLA for a three-game set and Washington will host Arizona for three games.
The sophomore centerfielder is Stanford's career batting average leader (.371). This season, he leads Stanford and ranks second in the Pac-10 with a .384 batting average. He also paces the team and the conference with 91 hits. Fuld has been on an incredible tear recently with 18 multiple-hit games in his last 21 contests, hitting .505 (46-91) with four doubles, two triples, four homers, 18 RBI and seven stolen bases during the period.
Fuld earned Second Team Preseason All-American honors from Baseball America prior to the 2002 season.
Fuld is Stanford's career batting average leader with a .371 career mark.
Last year, Fuld compiled a .357 batting average, while contributing 37 RBI and 11 stolen bases to earn Third Team All-American (NCBWA), Second Team Freshman All-American and All-Pac-10 honors. He also was named to the All-CWS and All-NCAA Regional teams, hitting .396 with 11 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 12 postseason games.
Fuld, a native of Durham, N.H., is a 2000 graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy.
