Jessica Mendoza and Sarah Beeson Named All-Americans

OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok. - Stanford seniors Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) and Sarah Beeson (Tucson, Ariz.) were both named NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Americans on Wednesday night at the Women's College World Series banquet. Mendoza was named to the First Team as an outfield selection, while Beeson was tabbed an at-large Second Team honoree.
It was the fourth First Team All America honor for Mendoza, who started 63 of the Cardinal's 64 games this season. The senior led the team in runs scored (65), hits (69), home runs (14), stolen bases (29), slugging percentage (.713) and total bases (134). She finished second in batting average (.367), doubles (17) and third in RBI (44).
Beeson, who started at first base in 62 of the 64 games for Stanford in 2002, was a First Team All-American choice last season and a Second Team selection in 2000. She led the team with a .376 batting average and .474 on base percentage, and was second in hits (67) and RBI (45). Her .551 slugging percentage ranked third on the club.
The Cardinal finished the 2002 campaign with a 44-20 overall mark, while taking sixth place in the Pac-10 with a 7-14 ledger.
