Sarah Beeson Named Verizon Academic All-America First Team

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior Sarah Beeson (Tucson, Ariz.) was named to the 12-member Verizon Academic All-America First Team earlier today.
The starting first baseman completed her Cardinal career with yet another consistent season. Beeson, who earned All-America honors for the third straight year, was one of the team's most productive hitters down the stretch. The two-time All Pac-10 First Team selection led the team with a .376 batting average, and was tops in walks (33) and on base percentage (.474).
She finished second on the team in hits (67) and RBI (45) and hit six home runs. Beeson posted 17 multi-hit games along with 13 multi-RBI games, and had not gone more than two games without reaching base all season. Beeson led the club with a .291 batting average (16-55) in conference play, and was also first in hits (16), homers (3), RBI (12) and slugging percentage (.527). She et the school single-season record for walks (33) in 2002 and holds the school career record for putouts and walks.
Beeson will also be competing for the 17-player Women's Elite Team for USA Softball, which will help prepare the World Championship team for the upcoming international events by competing in scrimmages and exhibition games prior to these events. The Elite Team will compete at the Canada Cup in Surrey, B.C., Canada, July 12-21.
