Former Devils Conrad And Duffy Named Minor League All-Stars

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Former Arizona State Sun Devil baseball players Chris Duffy (Carolina League) and Brooks Conrad (Midwest League) have been named all-stars in their respective league's annual midseason all-star games.
Duffy, who hit .373 with four home runs and 37 RBI in his only year as a Sun Devil in 2001, is leading currently playing for the Lynchburg Hillcats in the Single-A Carolina League. Duffy is ranked third in the league in batting with a .320 average and leads the circuit with 83 hits through the Hillcats first 64 games. Duffy was 8th round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in last June's amateur draft and was named team MVP of the Williamsport Crosscutters (New York-Penn League) after hitting .317 with 12 doubles, four triples and 30 stolen bases in his first professional season.
Conrad, a two-time All-Pac-10 second baseman while playing for ASU from 1999-2001, was selected as the starting second baseman for the Midwest League's East All-Star squad. Hitting .272 with 13 doubles, six triples and six home runs through the first 64 games of the Michigan Battle Cats 2002 season, Conrad has also totaled 11 stolen bases and 42 RBI. The native of Spring Valley, Calif., Conrad was a career .313 hitter with 15 home runs and 130 RBI in 162 games at ASU. Conrad hit .280 with four home runs and 39 RBI while being named team MVP of the Pittsfield Astros (New York-Penn League) in his rookie professional season last year.
Duffy will play in the MBNA America Carolina-California League All-Star game to be held June 18, 2002 at Frawley Field in Wilmington, Delaware. Conrad will play in the annual Midwest League All-Star game, also held June 18, 2002 at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing, Michigan.
