Murrell Announces 2002-03 Schedule

PULLMAN, Wash. - Sherri Murrell's first regular season game as head coach of the Washington State women's basketball team will take place against Wyoming on the eve of Apple Cup, Nov. 22.
The Wyoming contest will be one of 15 home games (including two exhibitions) that the Cougars will play in its 2002-03 schedule as announced by Murrell, Wednesday.
In addition to the Wyoming game, the Cougars' non-conference home schedule includes Eastern Washington (Dec. 4), Utah (Dec. 21) and Idaho (Feb. 27).
The Cougars' road schedule is underlined by a trip to Miami for the Florida International Tournament, Nov. 29-30. Along with host Florida Int., the tournament will feature Virginia Tech and Louisiana State. Rounding out the non-conference road portion of the schedule are trips to Montana State (Nov. 25), Gonzaga (Dec. 11) and Montana (Dec. 14).
'There is no question about it, we want to build success here at WSU,' said Murrell. 'Our schedule should provide the challenges we need to prepare ourselves for conference. The Florida International Tournament should be the toughest challenge of them all.'
The conference home opener is against Washington, Saturday, Dec. 28. During one stretch of the conference season from Jan. 23-Feb. 1, the Cougars will play four consecutive home games (Oregon State, Jan. 23; Oregon Jan. 25; UCLA, Jan. 30; USC, Feb. 1).
The Pacific-10 Conference Tournament is March 7-10 at the Compaq Center in San Jose, Calif.
