Cougar Tennis Star Earns National Honor

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State tennis senior Erica Perkins (Seattle) was selected to the 2001-02 Verizon Academic All-America University Division At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday.

The at-large category includes student-athletes from fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.

A student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.20 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for selection. Perkins, who gathered second team District VIII honors in 2001, is the first WSU women's tennis player to be named a Verizon Academic All-American. She is a 4.00 graduate student in education administration after graduating with a degree in history and a 3.92 undergraduate GPA.
