Two Softball Players Tabbed For Pac-10 Academic Honors
June 19, 2002
SEATTLE - Two Washington softball players, 2002 graduate Becky Simpson (Tumwater, Wash.) and junior-to-be Shawna Norris (Littleton, Colo.) have been named to the Pac-10 Softball All-Academic teams, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced Wednesday.
Simpson, one of 10 players named to the first team, finished out her Husky career by hitting .322 with 51 runs, 18 stolen bases and a school record seven triples. The lone senior on the squad in 2002, Simpson earned all-conference, all-region and NCAA regional all-tournament honors, starting in all 64 games. The 5-4 outfielder also was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team a year ago.
A second team honoree, Norris appeared in 33 games, starting at three different positions in 2002. Norris hit .200 with 11 hits, seven runs scored and four extra-base hits, while finishing with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Washington softball program now boasts 50 Pac-10 All-Academic selections in its 10-year history.
