Ten Cal Athletes Named to Academic All-Pac-10 Teams for Track and Field

BERKELEY - Juniors Martin Conrad and Mike Pestorich were named to the first team Academic All-Pac-10 team for track and field. Eight Golden Bears - Matt Blair, Carlos Carballo, Corey Creasey, Nick Mazur, Bubba McLean, Stephanie Cowling, Jennifer Joyce and Leora Ward - earned second team recognition.
Pestorich and Conrad both had outstanding years in the classroom and on the track. Pestorich led the Bears in the 800m with a PR of 1:51.24 and was the team's No. 2 1500m runner. Conrad recorded a PR of 8:56.65 in the 3000mSC at the Big Meet, which is No. 7 on Cal's all-time performers' chart.
An additional 11 Cal athletes garnered honorable mention accolades for the 2002 season. On the men's side, they were Mark Blanco, Kris Cuaresma-Primm, David Glasgow, Desmond McGill, Tyler Noesen and Ahmad Wright. Cal women honored included DeCola Groce, Chloe Jarvis, Cynthia Mallory, Deanna Slaton and Missy Vanek.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
