June 22, 2002

STANFORD - Former Cal track and field alums continued to perform well at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Bolota Asmerom, the Bears school-record holder in the 5000m, placed fourth in the event in a time of 13:32.88. That time was exactly one second slower than his Cal record. Alan Culpepper won the 5000m by crossing the finish line in 13:27.52.

Coming off a third-place showing in the 800m at the NCAA championships earlier this month, Erin Belger finished 10th in the preliminaries of the event at U.S. nationals, clocking in at 2:06.14. Nicole Teter led the top eight athletes which moved on to tomorrow's final with a time of 2:01.13.

The U.S. championships conclude tomorrow down on The Farm.
