Basketball Wins Final Game in Australia

Cairns, Australia - The Washington women's basketball team claimed another decisive victory in the fifth and final game of its 11-day tour through the country. The Huskies, coming off a pair of blowouts in Brisbane, defeated the Kuiyam Pride Women's Team, 128-69, at Fretwell Park in Cairns Tuesday.
The Huskies held a 56-45 advantage at halftime and put the game away when they shot 64 percent from the field in the second half. Eight of the 13 Huskies who saw action scored in double figures, led by redshirt sophomore Sarah Keeler (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) who tallied 19 points. Senior forward Kellie O'Neill (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) was next with 18 points, followed by Andrea Lalum (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman) with 16, Kayla Burt (Arlington, Wash./Arlington) (14), Giuliana Mendiola (13), and Nicole Castro (Darwin, Australia) and Cheryl Sorenson with 10 each. Highlighting the performance was a 16-point effort from senior Heather Reichmann, who played her final game in a Husky uniform.
Keeler added a pair of blocked shots and Mendiola passed out five assists en route to the victory.
Washington also carried a decisive advantage in rebounding, pulling down 41 boards to Kuiyam's 31. Reichmann was equally strong on the boards, grabbing a team-best seven along with Lalum. Kuiyam, plagued by 28 turnovers, was led by Katian Fischer who scored a game-high 28 points and teammate Samantha Jose, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Huskies return to Seattle Thursday, June 27.
