Ducks Suspend Sales of Football Season Tickets
June 25, 2002
EUGENE - The University of Oregon has suspended sales of its regular reserved season tickets for the 2002 football season after surpassing the previous record by almost 10,000 tickets, according to Senior Associate Athletics Director Dave Heeke.
It marks the fourth year in a row the Ducks have been forced to curtail ticket sales before the start of the season, with this year's total of 40,207 eclipsing last season's mark of 30,365 tickets sold.
Included in the increase was the purchase of 35,207 reserved seats compared to the sale of 26,600 reserved season tickets all of last year. The remainder of tickets sold were through general admission and family plan packages.
The additional number of tickets available in comparison with past seasons is a direct result of the expansion of Autzen Stadium, which will increase stadium seating capacity from 41,698 to 54,000.
Heeke added that a limited number of donor seating remained available in the new sections of the stadium, with less than 50 club seats and fewer than 300 preferred seats still remaining. Accompanying the club seats will be exclusive access to a new 12,000 square-foot club room (Club at Autzen) underneath the south side of the stadium. Single-game tickets for six of Oregon's eight home games will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday, July 9, with no tickets remaining for the Ducks' home games against USC and Washington. All tickets for the remaining six home games, including the Aug. 31 season opener vs. Mississippi State, are $29 each. In addition, Oregon will host Fresno State (Sept. 7), Idaho (Sept. 14), Portland State (Sept. 21), Arizona State (Oct. 19) and Stanford (Nov. 2).
For the first time this year, single-game tickets may be purchased over the internet through the Oregon athletics department's official web site at www.goducks.com. Tickets also may be purchased in person at the Casanova Center's Athletic Ticket Office, beginning at 9 a.m., as well as over the phone by calling 1-800-WEBFOOT or 346-4461.
