Alberto Concepcion Honored As Finalist For 2002 Johnny Bench Award

LOS ANGELES -- Alberto Concepcion was honored Tuesday as a finalist for the 2002 Johnny Bench Award at the 5th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet in Wichita, Kansas. Concepcion was one of three finalists honored. Alabama's Jeremy Brown won the award named for the former Cincinnati Reds catcher and Hall of Famer.
Concepcion, the 2002 Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, batted .363 in his junior season with a career-high 11 home runs and 48 RBI.
USC finished the 2002 season with a 37-24 record, winning its second straight Pac-10 championship with a 17-7 mark.
