Pac-10 Honors Five USC Tennis Players To All-Academic Teams

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The USC men's and women's tennis teams had five players honored to the 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic teams, announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. To be eligible, for selection a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor (freshmen are not eligible).

On the men's side, Andrew Park earned his second-consecutive first team Pac-10 All-Academic accolade and his fourth academic honor this season. A four-year letterwinner for the 2002 NCAA Championship Trojans, Park graduated on May 10 with a degree in biological sciences, a minor in biotechnology and a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. He will begin graduate coursework in USC's Keck School of Medicine in the fall.

Sophomores (soon-to-be juniors) Ruben Torres and Daniel Langre, both named to the NCAA All-Tournament team at the national championships, were also selected to the academic teams. Torres was named to the second team. He is a business major with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. Langre, an honorable mention selection, is international relations major with a 3.17 overall GPA.

On the women's tennis team, 2002 junior starters Jewel Peterson and Maureen Diaz were also selected as honorable mention. Peterson, a three-time All-American, is a communications major with a 3.03 GPA, while Diaz boasts a 3.07 average in communications
