Stockton Advances But Reavie Falls In Public Links
Sun Devil and defending U.S. Amateur Public Links Champion Chez Reavie fell 6 and 5 to Burke Spensky in the second round of the Public Links Championship at the 7,001-yard, par 72 Orchards Golf Club on Thursday, but teammate Brady Stockton won both his matches to advance, including a 20-hole match in the evening's third-round where he was down four holes with just eight to play.
Stockton, a senior-to-be at Arizona State who won the Paficic Northwest Golf Association Championship last weekend, beat Garrett Clegg 5 and 4 in the opening match and then rallied to beat Brent Wanner in 20 holes. In the past two weeks Stockton has won nine straight match-play contests.
On Friday, the remaining eight competitors will play in the morning quarterfinal round for the right to advance to the afternoon semifinal. Play continues through Saturday's 36-hole final at The Orchards Golf Club.
The U.S. Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
