Chris Nallen Helps Team USA Win International Match
July 19, 2002
GLENVIEW, Ill. - The University of Arizona's Chris Nallen shot a five-under-par 67 Friday to help Team USA win the Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships at The Glen Club.
Once again, Team USA had to fight off a furious Japanese rally, as the hosts won just five of 12 singles matches (5-6-1). Team Japan, which trailed 20-16 heading into Friday's final round, actually tied the score at 29 before the University of South Carolina's Kristy McPherson clinched the win with a nine-stroke decision over Chiharu Tsunekawa.
Arizona's Chris Nallen was one of the American bright spots, as he carded a five-under-par 68 to claim a five-stroke win over Japan's Kiyota Taichiro. The win improved Nallen's record to 3-0 in the competition, making him one of just three Team USA players to finish the three-day event with a spotless record. Additionally, he is one of two Americans to shoot below par in all three rounds.
It marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Americans, who lead the series 20-6.
