Natalie Coughlin Named Swimmer of the Month

Berkeley, Calif. - - Natalie Coughlin, a junior swimmer at the University of California, was named Swimmer of the Month for June by USA Swimming. This is the second Swimmer of the Month honor for her this year.
Coughlin won five events, including swimming on two winning relays, at the Charlotte Ultra Swim, June 6-9 in Charlotte, N.C. She tacked on another two wins at the XXXV Santa Clara International, June 27-30, in Santa Clara, Calif. At the Santa Clara meet, her 1:00.19 winning time in the 100 back was the third fastest of all-time in that event.
Coughlin, who earlier this year was a finalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award as the nation's top amateur athlete, was also one of five nominees for an ESPY award as Best Female Collegiate Athlete. In her brief career, she has now set two world records, 24 American records, is a two-time NCAA Swimmer of the Year, has won six individual NCAA titles and was named the recipient of the 2001-02 Honda Sport Award Winner for swimming April 3.
