Kang Wins M&T Bank Loretto FUTURES Golf Classic in Futures Tour Debut

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Arizona State golfer Jimin Kang captured her first professional victory in her Futures Tour debut, winning the M&T Bank Loretto FUTURES Golf Classic, held July 26-28 at The Links at Erie Village in Syracuse, N.Y.
Kang, a native of Seoul, Korea, and Edmonds, Wash., fired a four-under-par 67 Sunday to finish at 12-under 201 (69-65-67), capturing her first professional win and setting the tournament's 54-hole score record. She held off a final-round charge by former Arizona Wildcat Lorena Ochoa, of Guadalajara, Mexico, who shot a six-under 65 (-6) on the 6,094 par 71 course layout. Ochoa finished one shot behind Kang at 202 (-11).
A 2002 National Golf Coaches Association first-team All-American, Kang, 22, won two tournaments in her two-year career at ASU including the 2002 Pac-10 Conference individual title. A two-time All-Pac-10 honoree and the runner-up at the 1999 U.S. Women's Amateur, Kang finished in the top 10 in 13 tournaments in two seasons at ASU and decided to turn pro following her sophomore campaign as a Sun Devil.
Kang will attempt to qualify for the LPGA Tour at qualifying school at the end of August. Her next Futures Tour event will be the Betty Puskar FUTURES Golf Classic, August 9-11 in Morgantown, W. Va. More information about the Futures Tour can be found at www.futurestour.com.
