Volleyball Ranked Sixth In Preseason Coaches Poll

Aug. 13, 2002

PRESCOTT, Ariz.- The Arizona volleyball program maintained its stay in the top 10 of the USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll with a no. 6 ranking in the preseason poll on Monday. The Wildcats have now been ranked among the top 10 teams in the poll for 30 consecutive weeks and Monday's rankings are the 63rd straight poll for Arizona in the top 25.

The Wildcats, who opened their preseason training camp with a four-day trip to Prescott, Ariz., will face a number of teams listed among the top 25, including seven teams ranked in the top 15 alone.

In non-conference action the Wildcats will face second-ranked Nebraska, eighth-ranked Pepperdine, 12th-ranked Pacific, no. 13 Utah and 23rd-ranked BYU all while playing in the toughest conference in the nation.

Pac-10 teams ranked heading into the season include top ranked and defending national champion Stanford, third-ranked USC and no. 11 UCLA. Washington State and Oregon State, both NCAA Tournament participants last season, each received enough votes to be listed.

Arizona will open its season on the road on August 30 against UT-Arlington in Louisville, Ky.
