Jordan Harvey Selected To U.S. Squad For U-20 Tournament In Spain

Freshman defender Jordan Harvey (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo HS) has been chosen to represent the U.S. Under-20 squad at the XIX Torneo Internacional de Futbol de l'Alcudia in Valencia, Spain, held August 24-29. The U.S. will participate against some of the top youth national teams in the world in its final international games before World Youth Championship qualifying kicks off in November.
The U.S. will depart for Spain on Aug. 19 and will play in the tournament opener on Aug. 24 against Brazil. The U.S. follows up against Italy on Aug. 26 and then concludes Group B play on Aug. 27 against Ukraine. The tournament's Group A is comprised of Spain, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Gabon.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals on Aug. 28. Each team will play their final game on Aug. 29 for the final placements.
Eleven of the 20 players coach Thomas Rongen named were members of the 2001 U-17 World Championship team, including Harvey.
Harvey, last year's Gatorade National Player of the Year, will miss most of UCLA's pre-season training, which began Wednesday, and will also miss the Bruins' exhibition contest against Saint Louis on Aug. 24.
