Tara Kirk Highlights Stanford Performances At National Championships

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Current Stanford swimmer Tara Kirk (MetWest Stanford) finished third in the 200 meter breast to highlight the performances by Stanford affiliates on the fourth day of competition at the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championships on Thursday. Also performing were current Stanford swimmer Lacey Boutwell (MetWest Stanford), as well as former Cardinal standouts Jenny Thompson (Seacoast Swimming) and Gabrielle Rose (Novaquatics, Inc.).
Kirk recorded a time of 2:28.37 in her third place finish with Amanda Beard (Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics) winning the event in 2:25.35.
Thompson (55.41, 55.30 prelims) and Rose (56.11) finished fourth and tenth in the 100 meter free, while Boutwell (57.98) placed 36th. Current California swimmer Natalie Coughlin won her third individual race of the championships in a time of 54.66.
Rose also swam the second leg on the second place Novaquatics, Inc. 800 free relay team that clocked in at 8:15.59 behind winner Auburn's 8:12.22.
The Met West Stanford National Training Center team sits in 24th place with 30 points after four days of competition at the event, which will continue through Saturday, August 17. Full results and more information are available at usa-swimming.org .
