Thompson, Rose And Hyman Compete At National Championships

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Former Stanford swimmers Jenny Thompson (Seacoast Swimming, Stanford 1995), Gabrielle Rose (Novaquatics, Inc., Stanford 2000) and Misty Hyman (Arizona Desert Fox, Stanford 2001) competed on the fifth day of action at the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championships on Friday. All three were members of relay teams in the 400 meter medley relay. No current Stanford swimmers (MetWest Stanford) competed on Friday.
Rose swam the second leg (breaststroke) for the second place Novaquatics team that finished in 4:09.47 behind winner California Aquatics (4:07.48). Thompson swam the third leg (butterfly) for fifth place SeaCoast Swimming (4:15.16), while Hyman swam the leadoff leg (freestyle) ninth place Arizona Desert Fox.
Natalie Coughlin (California Aquatics) picked up an individual victory in the 200 meter back (2:08.53), while Diane Munz (Lake Erie Silver Dolphins) won the 800 meter free in 8:29.02 (8:28.84 semis).
The Met West Stanford National Training Center team has totaled 30 points after five days of competition at the event, which concludes Saturday, August 17. Full results and more information are available at usaswimming.org .
