UCLA Gymnastics Announces 2003 Schedule
Aug. 21, 2002
Six home meets, including the Pac-10 Championships; a season-opening trip to Hawaii; and road meets against perennial powers Utah and Michigan highlight the 2003 UCLA gymnastics schedule.
The Bruins, which return eight All-Americans, including 2002 NCAA all-around, floor and vault champion Jamie Dantzscher and 2001 NCAA all-around champion Onnie Willis, officially open the season at Hawaii against Oregon State on Jan. 2. Following the Hawaii trip, the Bruins will face a stiff challenge on Jan. 10 when they challenge Utah's NCAA record 23-year home unbeaten streak. Other road contests include a Feb. 7 meeting at 2002 NCAA Super Six participant Stanford and a Mar. 7 meet at Michigan that will match up three NCAA all-around champions in UCLA's Dantzscher and Willis and Michigan's Elise Ray (2001).
UCLA returns to Southern California on Jan. 17 at Cal State Fullerton and then hosts Cal, UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton in the home opener on Jan. 19. The Bruins will also host first-year program Arkansas on Feb. 2, conference foe Washington on Feb. 9, 2002 NCAA participants Arizona on Feb. 23 and a quad meet with Oklahoma, North Carolina and Rhode Island on Mar. 16.
The Pac-10 Championships come to Los Angeles on Mar. 29, the first of two major gymnastics championships the Bruins will be hosting in the next two years. UCLA will also host the 2004 NCAA Championships.
UCLA will host its annual Meet the Bruins exhibition on Nov. 24 at the John Wooden Center.
