Aug. 23, 2002

Corvallis, Ore. -

Senior forward Philip Ricci scored a tour-high 26 points and senior guard Jimmie Haywood added 18 as the Oregon State University men's basketball team defeated the Kuiyam Pride of the Australia Basketball Association 84-69 Friday at Fretwell Park. The win upped the Beavers' record to 4-1 on the six-game trip.

Oregon State outscored the Pride 32-14 in the final quarter to erase a 55-52 deficit after three periods.

The Beavers held the Pride to 35 percent shooting from the field, marking the second consecutive game and third time in the five games that an opponent has failed to reach 40 percent. Oregon State also held a 50-36 advantage in rebounding.

In addition to his 26 points, Ricci added 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the trip. The 6-7 foot forward is averaging 21.4 points and 8.6 rebounds, and shooting 62 percent from the field. Two other Beavers are averaging in double figures, Haywood at 15.2, and Brian Jackson at 12.0.

Oregon State wraps up its six-game Australia tour schedule Sunday against the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League.
