Stacey Tullock Gets Call To The Full National Soccer Team
Aug. 23, 2002
CHICAGO - U.S. Women's Soccer National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named the 24 players, including former Arizona State All-American Stacey Tullock (Phoenix, Arizona), who will come to Columbus, Ohio, for four days of training before the USA faces Scotland on Sept. 8, 2002, at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The match will kickoff at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN. Heinrichs will name 18 of the 24 to suit up against Scotland.
The call up for Tullock will be her first time with the full national team. Tullock just ended a successful initial WUSA season with the Philadelphia Charge where she was one of the finalists for WUSA Rookie of the Year.
It will be the first-ever meeting in women's soccer between the two countries and an important preparation match for the Americans as they move towards the 2002 NIKE U.S Women's Cup and the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, which will serve as 2003 Women's World Cup Qualifying, later in the fall.
Scotland will present an interesting match-up for the Americans as the emerging women's soccer nation was recently promoted to the upper competitive tier in Europe and features 21-year-old team captain Julie Fleeting, who plays in the WUSA with the San Diego Spirit.
