Beavs Top Cabon's Second-Division Squad 10-0
Aug. 25, 2002
CABON, Costa Rica - -
The Oregon State men's soccer team continued its tour of Costa Rica with a 10-0 trouncing of the second-division Cabon squad on Friday evening. The Beavers have one match remaining with U-20 national champion Alajuela before returning to Corvallis on Aug. 26.
The game was never close, as OSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes and never looked back, controlling possession and tempo of the game. No further details were available.
'It was a fantastic atmosphere for the guys to play in,' fourth-year head coach Dana Taylor said of the crowd and the town's support for its home squad. 'They threw everything in the book at us, including delaying the match by 20 minutes. However, the players kept their focus and we turned it against them.
'This match was a good dress rehearsal for our last game of the tour against Alajuela, which is the U-20 national champion.'
The Beavers return from their trip - funded by the players' fundraising efforts - on Monday. OSU kicks off its season with an Aug. 30 match at longtime Northwest rival Gonzaga at 4 p.m.
