No. 1 North Carolina Defeats Women's Soccer, 2-0
Sept. 1, 2002
LINCOLN, Neb. - Catherine Reddick and Anne Felts scored in the first six minutes Sunday and the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the USC Trojans, 2-0, at the Nebraska adidas Invitational.
Reddick scored at 4:25 when she turned around and blasted a goal from 20 yards out. Felts followed with an unassisted goal at 5:36 from eight yards away. The Tar Heels were able to relax after both goals, but the Trojans played evenly the remainder of the match.
'The first six minutes killed us,' said USC head coach Jim Millinder. 'We did not want to concede anything in the first 20 minutes and giving up two early goals to them early gave us a difficult task. We played them straight up after that, but we just could not get that first goal.'
North Carolina outshot USC by a 13-10 margin. Junior Megan Abbamonto led the Women of Troy with three shots.
USC will play next weekend at the UCLA Women's Cup. The Trojans will play Penn State on Friday (Sept. 8) and Virginia on Sunday (Sept. 10).
