Volleyball Slips Five Spots to 11th In Latest AVCA Rankings

Sept. 2, 2002

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona volleyball team slipped five spots to 11th in the latest USA Today/AVCA Coaches Poll released on Monday. Arizona's loss to Louisville over the weekend dropped the Wildcats out of the top 10 in the poll for the first time since September of 2000.

The Wildcats will have an opportunity to bounce back from the early season setback when second-ranked Nebraska (2-1), 14th-ranked Pepperdine (3-2) and New Mexico (0-4) come to Tucson for the 19th-annual Wildcat Classic on Friday and Saturday.

There was no change in the top five teams in the poll as Stanford (2-0), which did not play this past weekend, remained the No.1 team in the nation. Nebraska, which lost 3-0 to Arizona's Pac-10 rival on Monday, remained second, while the Women of Troy (3-0), Hawaii (2-0) and Long Beach State (4-0) rounded out the top five.

Louisville's victory over the Wildcats propelled the Cardinals into the poll with a No. 22 ranking.
