Marcie Ward Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford junior forward Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) has been tabbed the Pacific-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 27-Sept. 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Ward, from Alamo, Calif., scored the Cardinal's second goal in a 3-0 upset win at top-ranked Santa Clara on August 30. She also tallied six shots, including three on goal, against the defending NCAA Champion Broncos. Ward took a pass from Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) and gave Stanford a 2-0 lead at 49:59. The win marked the Cardinal's first over Santa Clara since 1994 and came before 4,756 fans at SCU's Buck Shaw Stadium.

Stanford (1-0-0), which shares third place in the latest NSCAA/adidas Top-25 poll with Texas A&M, will face the Aggies on Friday, September 6 on Maloney Field at 5 p.m.
