Beavers Remain Unbeaten After 3-0 Win Over Boise State
Sept. 7, 2002
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Megan McMillan recorded her third double-double of the year to help the Oregon State volleyball team defeat Boise State in three games (30-19, 30-12, 30-8) at the OSU Volleyball Classic on Saturday at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers, who improved to 4-0, hit a season-best .455 on the afternoon. McMillan, who led the team with 12 kills, hit .435, while Allison Lawrence was errorless with 10 kills on 20 attempts to finish with a .500 hitting percentage. No Beaver player hit below .333 for the match, while Boise State ended with a -.070 mark for the contest.
'The thing I liked was that as the match went on, we made fewer mistakes,' said coach Nancy Somera. 'I liked the focus we had the entire match. When you're beating a team easily, it's easy to lose focus and start making errors, and it was nice to see that our team didn't do that. That's a sign of competitive maturity that we've come to expect from this group.'
OSU made seven hitting errors in game one, opening with a .289 mark in the first game. In game two, the Beavers hit .581 with just two hitting errors, and in game three they were error-free with 14 kills on 23 attempts to hit .609.
The Beavers dominated the defensive side of the match as well, outdigging the Broncos, 52-28. McMillan and Joscelyn Hannaford each had 12 digs, while Nikki Neuburger added 11. OSU also had eight blocks to BSU's three.
Fourteen different Beavers saw action in at least one game. Back-up setter Desma Stovall picked up four assists, the first of her collegiate career. Redshirt freshman Katelyn Healy made her first appearance as a Beaver, and Tami Halleck came in to serve the final point of the match.
The Beavers wrap up the OSU Classic with a 7:30 p.m. match against Cal State Northridge on Saturday night.
