USC (1-0) at COLORADO (1-1) - 1:30 MDT/12:30 PDT - ABC regional telecast - The Series: USC and Colorado have met just four times with the Trojans winning all four. Six of the seven games have been played at Columbus. . . . Last Meeting: Washington State and Ohio State met at Columbus in front of 92,000-plus early in the 1991 season with the Buckeyes prevailing 33-19. The stats were closer than the final score as OSU outgained the Cougars just 479-449. The quarterbacks that day were Drew Bledsoe for WSU (he passed for 287 yards) and current ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit for OSU.

Coaching Notes: UNLV head man John Robinson had two very successful stints as head coach at USC (1976-82 and 1993-97). He also played and was an assistant coach down the road from Corvallis at OSU archrival Oregon. Both Robinson and OSU coach Dennis Erickson are former NFL head coaches. . . . All but three of the games in the series have been played at Stanford. . . . Last Year: Stanford closed out the regular season with a 41-14 win at rainy and muddy San Jose State. The win snapped a three-game Spartan winning streak against the Cardinal. ARIZONA: CB Michael Jolivette blocked two punts against Northern Arizona in the Wildcats' opener, setting up 10 Wildcat points. That matches the number of blocks UA had as a team last year. He was named Pac-10 Special Teams Player of Week for his efforts. . . . QB Jason Johnson passed for a career-high 381 yards and three TDs vs. NAU. In fact, Johnson surpassed his career best when he had 316 yards at halftime. . . . UA defense limited NAU to 202 yards total offense and just nine first downs. . . . Cats hope open date last week will give banged up offensive line chance to heal.

ARIZONA STATE: After trip to San Diego this week, Sun Devils not on the road again until Oct. 19. . . . ASU defense has allowed just one touchdown the last two games. Devils have allowed just 20 yards rushing over that two-game span and have recorded 30 tackles for loss, including 13 QB sacks. . . . Redshirt freshman QB Chad Christensen has not thrown an interception in his first three games. Devils have been picked off just once this year and not at all the last two games. . . . Junior DE Terrell Suggs has seven QB sacks this year and 27 for his career. He needs one more to move into second place on ASU's career list behind Shante Carver (41 from 1990-93).

CALIFORNIA: Trip to Michigan State this week is Golden Bears' only road trip in first five games. . . . At 2-0, Cal has doubled its win total of a year ago. Bears are off to their first 2-0 start since 1997. Cal has a three-game winning streak going, its longest since 1998. . . . QB Kyle Boller is thriving in coach Jeff Tedford's offense. Boller is completing 63.8% (37-58) of his passes with five TDs and no picks. . . . Golden Bears have just one turnover in first two games and hold a 7-1 turnover advantage. This after being last in the Pac-10 in turnover margin last year. . . . With four interceptions made this year, Cal is halfway to last season's total of eight picks. . . . Bear offensive line has allowed just two QB sacks in two games. . . . Cal is outscoring opponents 66-10 in first half, including 52-10 in first quarter. OREGON STATE: CB Dennis Weathersby has become the Beaver career leader in pass breakups. . . . OSU has sold out all its remaining home games. . . . Beavs currently have a five-game home winning streak going and have won 17 of last 19 at Reser Stadium. . . . Any concerns regarding the loss of veteran offensive stalwarts QB Jonathan Smith and TB Ken Simonton may have been allayed by the play of their replacements in OSU's first two games. . . . Soph QB Derek Anderson's two-game passing stats read 48-of-77 (62.3%) for 631 yards, 7 TDs, 0 INTs. In the same two games, TB Steven Jackson has rushed 46 times for 258 yards (5.6-yards average) and 2 TDs. . . . Those two have been big contributors to the Beavers averaging 42.0 points, 514 yards total offense and 322.5 yards passing per game through two games. . . . OSU has 11-3 (+8) advantage in turnover margin due largely to picking off seven passes in first two games.

He currently ranks second on SC's career completion list with 641, trailing Rob Johnson's 676 (1992-94). Palmer is approaching inclusion on the Pac-10 career passing and total offense charts. . . . Trojans hit the road for three of their next four games. . . . SE Kareem Kelly has caught a pass in each of his 36 USC games, one game short of John Jackson's (1986-89) school record. He is the only UW QB ever to throw four 70-plus-yard passes in his career. He has had back-to-back 300-yard passing games to open this season. . . . Huskies trailed San Jose State at halftime (10-0) before coming back to win. It marked the first time UW trailed at home at halftime since 1995.
