Women's Volleyball Takes Week Off From Regular Season Competition

LOS ANGELES -- After garnering its second tournament victory of the season last week at the BYU Mizuno Classic, the second-ranked USC women's volleyball team (6-0) will take this week off from regular season competition before entering the Pac-10 season on Sept. 20.
The Women of Troy will host two exhibition matches in the coming week at the Lyon Center. USC will play a Cardinal & Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. and admission will be free. On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Trojans will host the Czech Republic at 7 p.m.* Both matches will be broadcast live on www.usctrojans.com.
USC defeated BYU, 3-0, Wake Forest, 3-1, and No. 6 Florida, 3-0, last week to capture the BYU Mizuno Classic tournament title. Sophomore outside hitter Keao Burdine was honored as tournament MVP, while junior outside hitter April Ross and sophomore middle blocker Emily Adams were named to the all-tournament team.
The Trojans' win over sixth-ranked Florida on Sept. 6 was their second-victory over a top 10 opponent in five days. USC upset No. 2 Nebraska, 3-0, on Monday, Sept. 2, at the Ball State Radisson Hotel Roberts/Nike Classic.
The 2002 Pac-10 season begins on Friday, Sept. 20, when USC travels to Tempe, Ariz., for a 7 p.m. match against Arizona State. The Trojans will face 15th-ranked Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in Tucson.
