Mike Montgomery Named to Long Beach State Hall of Fame

Long Beach, Ca - Mike Montgomery, Stanford's all-time winningest men's basketball coach, will be inducted into the Long Beach State University Hall of Fame on Oct. 23, 2002.
Montgomery, a 1968 graduate of LBS, joins five other former 49er athletes. They are Todd Dillion (football), Tom Hoff (men's volleyball), Linda Lunceford-Sanders (softball), Jo Redmon (fencing coach), and Francois Wise (basketball).
The Long Beach State Hall of Fame, established in 1986, will add these six new members to its roster bringing the total to 154. This will be the 17th class to be inducted into the Long Beach State Athletic Hall of Fame.
Montgomery played on the 1966 and 1968 men's basketball teams at Long Beach State as a reserve guard. Montgomery, who graduated from Millikan High School and earned his BA degree in physical education from Long Beach State in 1968, will enter his 17th season as head basketball coach at Stanford in 2002-03. Montgomery has a 339-156 (.685) record at Stanford with ten trips to the NCAA Tournament and four NIT bids. In 1998, he coached the Cardinal to the Final Four and finished the year 30-5. Montgomery has led the Cardinal to eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
Overall in 24 years as a collegiate head coach, Montgomery is 493-232 (.680) with 16 post-season appearances.
