Cal Men Win USF Invitational, Bear Women Finish Fourth

SAN FRANCISCO - The California men's cross country team won the San Francisco Invitational with 46 points Saturday morning at Golden Gate Park's Lindley Meadows. The Golden Bear women placed fourth with 107 points.
The Bear men were able to grab top honors behind the one-two finish of senior Marty Conrad (21:11) and freshman Giliat Ghebray (21:15) on the four-mile course. Conrad also won the Berkeley Firetrail Challenge last Saturday. Sacramento State took second in the team competition with 50 points with Cuco Chavez clocking the third-fastest time (21:20). Santa Clara and San Jose State tied for third with 64 points.
On the women's side, Sacramento State finished first with 38 points, ahead of San Jose State (47) and San Francisco (90). Saint Mary's Allegra Porter won the 2.7-mile race in 16:17, followed by Sacramento State's Melissa Madeson (16:37) and USF's Anna Bretan (16:57).
Next up for Cal is the Aggie Invitational Sept. 21 in Davis.
