Volleyball Sweeps St. Mary's

TUCSON, Ariz.- The 15th-ranked Arizona volleyball team swept St. Mary's (Calif.) 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Nike Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. Game scores were 30-25, 30-19, 30-27. The victory improves Arizona's record to 4-3 for the season and sets up a showdown with No. 21 Pacific Saturday night.
Freshman Jennifer Abernathy had her most impressive match of the season, tallying her first career double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. She also hit a match-high .385.
Abernathy's classmate Kim Glass chipped in with 11 kills and eight digs, while senior Lisa Rutledge recorded 10 kills and nine digs in the Wildcat win. Setter Laurie Gardner dished out 39 assists and had nine digs for Arizona
The Wildcats out-blocked the Gaels 12.5 to 5 in the match. Freshman middle blocker Bre Ladd recorded six block assists to lead the Arizona effort. The Wildcats hit .242 as a team while limiting St. Mary's to just .101.
Arizona will face 2001 Sweet Sixteen opponent No. 21 Pacific tonight at 7 p.m.
