Cal Leads OSU Invite After Two Rounds

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Cal women's golf team is on track to win its third straight Oregon State Invitational Monday after the first two of three rounds at Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Under damp conditions, the Golden Bears opened the 2002-03 season by carding a team score of 585 today and hold a two-stroke lead over UCLA (587). After the first round, Cal was two shots back of the Bruins with a 297, but the Bears responded with a tournament low 288 in the second round. Host Oregon State is third with a 596 at the 18-team tournament.

Senior Vikki Laing is in second place with a 143 (70-73) to lead all Cal golfers. She is two shots back of Idaho's Nicole Keller, who tallied rounds of 70 and 71.

Also in the Top 10 for the Bears are juniors Claire Dury (T4th, 146) and Sarah Huarte (T8th, 148).

The final round of the OSU Invite tees off Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
