Cal Leads After First Day of Mid Pines Intercollegiate

The Golden Bears fired rounds of 282 and 287 (7-under) to take a nine-shot lead through the first two rounds of the Mid Pines Intercollegiate at the par-72 Mid Pines Country Club. East Carolina (286-292) stands second, while Wichita State (287-292), Ball State (294-288) and Virginia Commonwealth (294-288) round out the top-five.

Cal's Michael Wilson shot back-to-back rounds of 69 (-6) and leads Kenny Cook of Ball State (69-70) and Ted Brown (71-68) of Virginia Commonwealth by just a single shot heading into tomorrow's final round.

The Bears placed two other golfers among the top-10 in their first outing of the season. Peter Tomasulo (73-70) and Jeff Hood (70-73) are tied for seventh place along with Marshall's Brad Tweel. Rounding out the five-man Cal squad is J.R. Ruda (72-75) and Christian Schunck (71-76), both tied for 23rd place.

The final round will start Tuesday morning with an 8:45 (E.S.T.) shotgun start.
