Volleyball Sweeps Oregon State In Home Opener

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Washington (9-1) volleyball defeated Oregon State (5-4) in straight games (30-21, 30-28, 30-26) this evening as it made both its home and Pac-10 debuts in the Bank of America Arena.
The Beavers took leads in both the second and third games but senior Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) led the Huskies to victory with her 19-kill and .486 hitting percentage performance. Sanja Tomasevic (Uzice, Yugoslavia) and Kaitlin Leck (Carson City, Nevada) also did some damage against the OSU defense with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Washington was hit and miss on serve, scoring ten aces to Oregon State's one but made 19 errors from behind the line. Senior Gretchen Maurer (San Clemente, Calif.) recorded five of the UW aces for her team-high 34th of the season.
Oregon State received quality play from Megan McMillan with 10 kills and 15 digs and Joscelyn Hannaford with nine kills and 13 digs.
The win improves Washington to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-10 while Oregon State dips to 0-1 in conference and 5-4 overall.
The Huskies return to conference action tomorrow night as they host Oregon at 7:00 p.m.
