Former ASU Football Player Mike Brunson Passes Away

TEMPE, Ariz. - Mike Brunson, an Arizona State football letterwinner in 1968 and 1969, passed away earlier this week. Services will be held at Rest Haven Park and Cemetery at 4310 E. Southern Avenue, Phoenix, (602-437-0436). A wake will be held Monday evening, September 23rd from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A service will be held Tuesday morning, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. Brunson is survived by his wife, Essie, and two sons Michael and Marcus. Marcus was a seven-time All-American at ASU in track and still holds three school sprint records.
Brunson wore #24 as a Sun Devil and started at wingback during the 1969 season. ASU compiled a 16-4 record with Brunson on the field, who rushed for 84 yards (8.4 avg.) with two touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns his senior year. After his time at ASU, Brunson went on to play one season for the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL.
