Beavers Blank Siena

Sept. 22, 2002

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - -

Oregon State got a score from Alan Gordon 18 seconds into the second half and held off Siena for a 1-0 win on Sunday in men's soccer action.

Gordon's sixth goal of the season gave OSU the lead, but it was a second-half save by Peter Billmeyer that preserved the win for the Beavers (6-1-0), who are off to their best start since 1994.

Siena nearly evened the score when Tom Santoro had a breakaway in the 60th minute, but Billmeyer made an excellent save to keep OSU on top. The junior keeper made four saves on the day.

Billmeyer's save on the breakaway also helped give OSU its fourth shutout in seven games - two more shutouts than the team's total last year.

Gordon now has 13 points this year after the winning goal Sunday and a five-point performance in a 6-2 win over Marist on Friday.

The Beavers continue their swing through New York with a match at Albany before returning to Corvallis for an Oct. 2 showdown with in-state rival Portland.
