Arizona Men's Tennis Takes A Week Off before ITA All-American

This Week: The Cats begin preparations for the ITA All-American, which takes place Oct. 4-13.
Last Weekend: The men's tennis team competed in the Napa Valley Fall Classic, in Napa Valley, Calif. The Wildcats traveled six players, freshman Daniel Andrus, junior Carl Hagman, junior Whi Kim, senior Tom Lloyd, sophomore Colin O'Grady and sophomore transfer Paul Warkentin. The Wildcats played four ranked opponents. Kim matched up against, the No. 6- and 25-ranked players Amer Delic and Brian Wilson of Illinois. Kim dropped both matches, playing the No. 6-ranked Delic strong, but losing in three sets, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-1. Paul Warkentin faced the No. 88-ranked player, Martin of Illinois, beating him in three sets, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3. Lloyd faced the No. 44-ranked player Phil Stolt, and lost in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. In total, the Wildcats finished 7-8 in singles play. O'Grady finished the weekend with a record of 2-1in singles play. In doubles play, the new combination of Andrus and Warkentin combined for the Cats' two doubles wins. The pairs of Kim and O'Grady, and Hagman and Lloyd finished the tournament 0-3.
Getting Started: The newest additions to the men's tennis program, Daniel Andrus and Paul Warkentin had a successful weekend against strong opponents. Andrus finished the weekend with an impressive 2-0 record in singles action for the best record compiled by a Wildcat last weekend. Warkentin finished the weekend with a 2-1 singles record with a win over a ranked opponent from Illinois. The duo also paired in doubles and left California with the team's two doubles wins.
Up Next: The Wildcats will travel to the ITA All-American, in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Nov. 4-13. Pre-qualifying rounds begin on Monday, Nov. 4. Four Wildcats are scheduled to make the trip. Among the four Wildcats to make the trip, Whi Kim has pre-qualified for the main draw.
