Scott Lipsky/David Martin Earn No. 1 Doubles Seed At ITA All-American
Sept. 26, 2002
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Stanford University seniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY) and David Martin (Tulsa, OK) have received the No. 1 seed in the doubles draw at the prestigious Icy Hot/ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championship next month. The singles and doubles main draws will be held October 10-13 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Lipsky and Martin, who were finalists at the All-American last season in Stone Mountain, Georgia, advanced to the final of the NCAA Doubles Championship last May. The two-time All-Americans also reached the NCAA Semifinals as sophomores in 2000.
In singles, Martin received the ninth seed in the 64-player singles draw. He finished last year in impressive fashion by upsetting a pair of seeded players to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championship.
Lipsky will join Martin in the singles main draw, while freshman K.C. Corkery (Manhattan Beach, CA) will participate in qualifying action beginning on October 8.
The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championship is the largest collegiate tennis event of the year. The tournament features 256-player singles and 128-doubles team pre-qualifying tournaments (October 4-7) and 64-player and 32-doubles team qualifying events (October 8-9) which feed into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draw (October 10-13).
The All-American is also the first of three Division I national championship events, including the Omni Hotels/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
