Nnamani Notches Match-High 14 Kills In Sweep Of Oregon State

Corvallis, Ore. - Sophomore outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani notched a match-high 14 kills as the No. 4 ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept conference foe Oregon State, 3-0 tonight at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon. Game scores were 30-23, 30-20, 30-19.

The Cardinal improve to 11-1, 2-0 Pac-10 while the Beavers fall to 5-6, 0-3 in conference play.

A fiesty Oregon State team took an early 5-2 lead in game one. The Beavers continued to keep the pressure on increasing their lead to 15-10 on a Cardial hitting error. After the media timeout, Stanford came out and scored four consecutive points to pull within one and force an OSU timeout. Ashley Ivy tied up the game at 16-all with a service ace. The Cardinal took their first lead at 18-17 on a block by Sara McGee and Anna Robinson. Stanford extended the lead to 23-19 on a Logan Tom kill. A joust at the net, won by McGee, put the Cardinal up 27-21 and forced a second OSU timeout. Stanford reached game point on a block by Ogonna Nnamani and McGee at 29-22. A Beaver error gave the Cardinal the 30-23 victory.

Stanford opened game two with a 7-2 lead on a Nnamani kill. Oregon State came right back with four straight points to close the gap to 6-7. With the game tied at 8-8, the two teams traded points until the Cardinal pulled away, taking a four point lead at 22-18 on a Jennifer Harvey service ace. Stanford continued to press, extending the lead to 25-19 on a Beaver hitting error. Another OSU hitting error put the Cardinal at game point (29-20) while a McGee/Tom block gave Stanford the 30-20 win.

Game three remained close early with neither team able to establish more than a two point advantage. OSU took their first timeout, trailing 10-11 after a three-point Cardinal run. Stanford extended the lead to 19-13 on a Lindsey Yamasaki kill. A Sara Dukes' kill put the Cardinal up 28-17 while an Oregon State service error gave Stanford game and match point at 29-18. A Beaver hitting error ended the game 30-19.

Sara McGee had 12 kills and nine blocks while hitting .556 for the Cardinal. Logan Tom added 12 kills and three blocks to the Stanford cause. Setter Katie Goldhahn had 25 assists as well.

Katrina Nelson led the Beavers with 10 kills on the night.

Stanford is next in action tomorrow night against Oregon at 7 p.m. in Eugene, Ore.
