Fresno, Calif. - Top-seeded Raquel Kops-Jones breezed her way through the first four rounds of action this weekend, only to drop the title match 6-0, 7-5, to Fresno State's No. 2-seed Chloe Carlotti in the Bulldog Classic title match at the Spalding D. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno.

The 18th-ranked Kops-Jones decimated the competition enroute to the championship match, only losing 12 games in the process. She defeated Fresno State's Vlatka Jovanovic 6-2, 6-0 before dropping Natalia Kostenko of Pacific 6-2, 6-1 in advancing to the quarterfinals. Kops-Jones then cruised by fourth-seed Edit Pakay of Loyola Marymount 6-0, 6-3 before running into a red hot No. 24-ranked Carlotti in the finals. Carlotti blanked Kops-Jones in the first set before the Fresno native, Kops-Jones, took a 4-3 lead in the second set. But Carlotti rebounded to take the next three games to win the match.

Cal's third-seeded and 33rd-ranked Catherine Lynch had a noteable performance as well, coasting through the first three rounds before facing teammate Nicole Havlicek in the quarterfinals. Havlicek made a match of it by winning the first set 6-4, but Lynch pulled it out by winning the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 to claim the victory. Lynch gave Carlotti a test in semifinal action, but eventually dropped a hard-fought match 7-6 (4), 6-4 to Carlotti in a match that lasted more than two hours. Havlicek advanced to the semis by defeating San Jose State's Ana Lukner and Sacramento State's Roberta Fessenko.

The top-seeded combination of Kops-Jones and Lynch moved into the title match of doubles competition after winning their semifinal match against Sacramento State's fourth-seeded duo of Margarita Karnaukhova and Italina Kirkinas. Kops-Jones and Lynch then proceeded to lose the doubles title match to No. 2-seeded and 34th-ranked Carlotti and Julia Tallo of Fresno State 8-4.

The Bears' third-seeded pair of Carla Arguelles and Nicole Havlicek advanced to the semis before losing to Carlotti and Tallo.

As the host of the Bulldog Classic, Fresno State won the singles and doubles titles, both coming at the hands of the Golden Bears.
