Gesser Receives USA Today/Pac-10 POW

Oct. 1, 2002

PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State senior quarterback Jason Gesser was named the Pac-10's offensive player of the week and USA Today's national player of the week for his 431-yard, 4-touchdown performance against California Saturday.

Gesser, playing with injured ribs, threw touchdown strikes of 11, 10, 31, and 6 yards in the Cougar's comeback win over the Golden Bears. The Honolulu, Hawaii native completed a career-high 28 passes and tied ex-WSU signal caller Ryan Leaf by connecting on a scoring pass in his 17th-straight game.

Behind Gesser, who has led WSU to victory in 14 of its last 17 games, the Cougars racked up 578 yards total offense after being down 21-6 at one point in the first half.
