STANFORD posted a Pac-10 record low 27 points to capture its sixth consecutive Pac-10 title, and eighth Conference crown in nine years. Junior Lauren Fleshman and freshman Sara Bei posted a one-two finish for the Cardinal as they recorded a 37- point margin of victory over Arizona. Bei's seventh place showing at the NCAA West Regionals guided the Cardinal to the West Regional championship. For her efforts during the season, Bei was honored as the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year.

However, it was Pac-10 Athlete of the Year Tara Chaplin and the ARIZONA Wildcats reversing the table on the Cardinal at the NCAA championships, where the Wildcats equaled their best-ever NCAA performance with a fourth place finish - one spot ahead of Stanford. Chaplin's individual title at the NCAA Championships capped a brilliant senior campaign, that also included a first place finish at the NCAA West Regionals and a third place showing at the Pac-10 Championships.

Following the Wildcats success at the NCAAs, Arizona's Dave Murray was honored by his peers as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year. With Chaplin's NCAA title, Murray has coached four individuals (Aaron Ramierz '86, Martin Keino '94, Amy Skieresz '96, Chaplin '01), who have taken top honors at the NCAA Championships.
