President Bush Honors NCAA Champion Women's Tennis Team

Stanford, Calif. - The 2002 National Champion Stanford women's tennis team accepted an invitation to visit the White House as part of a 10-team championship celebration reception with President George W. Bush on Sept. 23, 2002.

The Cardinal were one of 10 teams that was invited to take part in the 2002 NCAA Spring Sports Championship Day hosted at the White House. The other nine teams included: USC men's tennis, Texas baseball, Minnesota men's golf, Duke women's golf, South Carolina track & field, Louisiana State men's track & field, California softball, Syracuse men's lacrosse and Princeton women's lacrosse.

The Stanford women's tennis team (27-1) captured its second straight national championship with a 4-1 victory over Florida last May. The Cardinal won its 12th NCAA Team Championship in the 22-year history of the event, and fourth in the last six seasons.
