Arizona Earns Five Victories in Two Separate Tournaments

TUCSON Ariz.-While competing in two separate tournaments, the Wildcats won three singles matches and two doubles matches at the ITA All-American in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the Northern Arizona Invitational located in Sedona, Ariz.
In the first round of pre-qualifying for the ITA All-American sophomore Paul Warkentin beat Zach Malmgren 6-0, 6-4, advancing him to the second round of pre-qualifying to be played tomorrow morning. Also competing with Warkentin was senior Tom Lloyd who lost in two closely contested sets to Karim Alayli 7-5, 6-4.
At the Northern Arizona Invitational, the Wildcats won two singles matches and two doubles matches. On the singles side redshirt freshman Tim Mullane won his first match as a Wildcat over Hodzic Jasmin of New Mexico 6-0, 6-3. After a first round bye, junior Carl Hagman notched a victory over Dan Evens of New Mexico State 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Colin O'Grady closed out the day falling to Thibault Schram of Northern Arizona 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles action three Arizona players and one New Mexico State player formed to make two teams. Carl Hagman and Colin O'Grady teamed up, while Tim Mullane and NMSU's Danilo Zivanovic paired to form another. After a bye in the first round, the combination of Hagman and O'Grady won in the quarterfinal round beating Eric Conklin and Anders Hanisch of New Mexico State 8-5. The pair of Mullane and Zivanovic beat their first round opponents James Heck and Travis Shirk of Northern Arizona 8-0, and won their second round match against Patrick Aubone and Jeremy Coll also from Northern Arizona 8-3. Both doubles pairs will compete tomorrow morning in the semifinals.
The Wildcats will be in action again tomorrow at the ITA All-American and at the Northern Arizona Invitational.
