Gray, Sumantri Advance To Qualifying Draw Of ITA All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- Washington women's tennis players senior Colleen Gray and sophomore Dea Sumantri earned wins in the third-round of pre-qualifying singles action of the ITA All-American Championships, Sunday at UCLA, to advance to the tournament's qualifying draw Oct. 8-9.
Gray, the 14th-seed, upset second-seeded Uzma Kahn (UC Santa Barbara) in straight sets 7-6, 7-5. Sumantri, the 12th-seed, also won in straight sets over Penn's Nikki Ptak, 6-3, 6-4. The pair, seeded fifth, was upset in the second round of doubles action, falling 8-6 to the team of Eva Wang and Melissa Anderson from Harvard.
Senior Erin Boisclair fell from the tournament in singles action with a loss to Kentucky's Amy Trefethen (2-6, 6-4, 6-2). Boisclair and freshman Dinka Hadzic were also eliminated in the second-round of doubles with an 8-5 loss to the team of Bergman and Lingman from Harvard.
Gray and Sumantri will join teammates junior Claire Carter and senior Darija Klaic at the ITA All-American Championships qualifying draw at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9. Carter and Klaic earned qualifying singles selections, in addition to their main draw selection for the doubles competition. Winners from the qualifying draw advance to the main draw, Oct. 10-13.
