The Wildcat women's tennis team continues playat the Riviera All-American Championships inLos Angeles, Calif. In the first round of the pre-qualifying singles bracket Sunday, sophomoreMarie-Pier Pouliot fell to Urska Juric of Missouri,6-2, 6-2. Pouliot teamed up with fellow sophomoreDianne Hollands in pre-qualifying doubles play.The duo was defeated in the first round by Duke'sKatie Granson and Julia Smith, 8-1.Wildcat junior Debbie Larocque and sophomoreDianne Hollands begin competition in thequalifying singles bracket on Tuesday, Oct. 8.Sophomore Maja Mlakar begins main-draw singlesplay on Thursday, Oct. 10. Also on Thursday, Mlakarteams up with Debbie Larocque for main-draw doublesplay.
The Arizona women's tennis team competedin the Rice Tennis Classic in Humble, Texas, on Sept.27-29. In the top-flight singles bracket, sophomore DianneHollands upset No. 13-ranked Maja Mlakar, 6-4, 6-3,to claim first place. Junior Debbie Larocque wonthe consolation bracket in top-flight singles play,defeating LBSU's Lindsey Marvel, 6-2, 6-2. In thesecond flight of singles play, sophomore Kelly Perryclaimed fifth place by defeating LBSU's ClaudiaArgumedo, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Marie-Pier Pouliot fell to Karen Chao of Lee College, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Inthe third flight of singles action, freshman KristyRandono defeated Lee College's Christina Mancheno6-0, 6-2, to claim fifth place. In doubles action,Arizona's fourth-ranked duo of Mlakar and Larocquewas upset by Minnesota's Valerie Vladea andMichaela Havelkova, 8-6. Hollands and Pouliotdefeated Nischela Reddy and Jeanette Cluskey ofMinnesota, 8-3, to claim third place. Perry and Randonocaptured third place in the consolation bracket bydefeating Minnesota's Cici Anderson and Kandis Batiste,8-0.
The Cats will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete inthe Region XIII Championships, on Oct. 24-28.
