TACOMA, Wash. - -
The Oregon State women's golf team fired a 313 on Tuesday in the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and is in eighth place overall at the 11-team tournament with a total of 614.
The Beavers began the day in sixth, but dropped two spots and trail seventh-place Stanford by three strokes heading into Wednesday's final 18 holes at the par-73 Tacoma Golf and Country Club.
'We were on the verge of having a good round today,' OSU coach Rise Lakowske said. 'They were going along fine and then would make a double bogey and get off track. We just never got anything going today.
'It wasn't that we had any big numbers, but we made enough bogies where we shouldn't have and we had some three-putts, which added up,' Lakowske said. 'We mishit some shots today, too.'
Leah Whiting and Stacie Ferguson remained in the top 20 by shooting 79 and 78, respectively. The duo began the day in the top 10 with Whiting tied for second after an opening-round 71 and Ferguson tied for seventh after a 73 on Monday.
Whiting is now tied for 14th at 4-over-par 150 and Ferguson is among a group of four tied for 18th at 151.
Ashlei Pendleton shot 79 Tuesday to follow Monday's 77, and is tied for 31st with a 156.
Laura Skinner carded a 77 to cut three strokes from Monday's round.
'Laura Skinner made some improvements between yesterday and today on the range,' Lakowske said. 'She was much more confident today. She put the ball very close to the pin and was inside 20 feet on most of her approach shots. The putts just weren't falling for her.
Alex Lee is tied for 53rd and Alex Lucio, playing as an individual, is tied for 42nd.USC's Becky Lucidi's opening-round 65 allowed her enough of a cushion to shoot a 77 Tuesday and maintain a one-shot lead over Pepperdine's Katherine Hull. Lucidi is 4-under at 142.
USC, with a score of 9-over 593, owns a seven-shot lead over tournament host Washington and Pepperdine.
